Are you an Instructor from another organization and want to learn more about the PADI Scuba Teaching System and prepare to attend an IE?


Then the OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor) program is for you. It prepares you to function effectively as a PADI Instructor, while you will receive the foundation you need to prepare for the IE (Instructor Examination).


Requirements


  1. PADI Assistant Instructor, PADI Instructor, or current accredited instructor member (with the possibility of renewal) with another recreational scuba training organization for a minimum of six months.
  2. 18 years old.
  3. Medical certification accrediting fitness for diving signed by a medical doctor within the last 12 months and not having any change in medical condition.
  4. Certified diver for at least six months.
  5. Have completed the EFR Primary and Secondary Care course, or other qualifying training, within the last 24 months; or be a current Emergency First Response Instructor or CPR/First Aid Instructor from another emergency medical care organization.
  6. Documentation of any applicable non-PADI equivalent entry level, advanced, rescue and leadership certifications.

Other OWSI Program Execution Requirements


  • Present at least one academic knowledge development presentation, earning a minimum score of 3.4.
  • Present at least two Confined Water (in water) teaching presentations, earning a minimum score of 3.4 on one presentation. For one presentation, the candidate performs without a certified assistant.
  • In open water, present at least one open water integrated (in-water) teaching presentation (two exercises), earning a minimum score of 3.4 on each exercise.
  • Perform all 24 exercises of the Drill Assessment, earning a minimum score of 82 total points, with no individual score lower than 3.
  • Earn a score of 75 percent on all sections of the Diving Theory Exam and review any failed questions until you have reached The Dominion. Retest candidates who have scored less than 75 percent. Candidates who have completed the Dive Theory eLearning within the last 12 months (eRecord will serve as proof) may receive credit towards this requirement.
  • Swim 400 metres/yards without stopping, without swimming aids, and using any or combination of strokes.
  • Complete 10 minutes of floating, moving, or floating without using swimming aids and wearing only a swimsuit.
  • In confined or open water , demonstrate to a model the rescue of a diver simulating panic at the surface. In open water, demonstrate to a model the rescue of a scuba diver simulating to be unconscious and not breathing at the surface.
  • In open water, participate in a drill that includes: Bringing to the surface a diver who pretends to be unconscious and not breathing Providing assistance on the surface Exit Boat/shore first aid including artificial respiration and administering oxygen to the victim using a respirator mask
